Princess of Asturias Foundation

Since 1981, Teatro Campoamor has provided the solemn setting for the annual Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony. This stage reflects the mission of the Foundation: to recognise and promote excellence. Over more than four decades, it has witnessed decisive moments that form part of the living memory of this institution. Here, His Majesty the King delivered his first public speech as Prince of Asturias and, thirty-eight years later, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias recalled that moment in her first address, underlining the continuity of these awards.

The only exception in this history came in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic made it necessary to move the ceremony to another venue. Its return to the theatre in 2021 reaffirmed the symbolic value of Campoamor, described in the words of King Felipe as the expression of “our finest tradition and history”. Every October, the voices of the laureates once again fill this stage, projecting the universal dimension of the Awards.
